Based in High Carr, Newcastle reporting to the GB Engineering Manager the successful candidate will provide comprehensive engineering support through planned & reactive maintenance, providing engineering solutions & improvement to plant machinery.

The Senior Maintenance Engineer will also be responsible for:

  • Reactive and planned maintenance
  • Route cause analysis & effective countermeasures
  • Regular inspection, repair and improvement of machinery and equipment
  • Ensure downtime is kept to a minimum to ensure the cost-effective running of the plan and machinery availability
  • Daily reporting to colleagues and site management on breakdowns & daily engineering activities
  • Liaise with contractors for day-to-day issues/breakdown support where required
  • Support engineering projects
  • Identifying and implementing engineering solutions & improvements
  • Ensure HSE procedures are followed during all engineering activities
  • Develop & maintain critical stock/inventory levels
  • Utilisation of PPM software
  • Data collection & reporting
  • Ensuring high standards of engineering 5S


Candidates must have previous experience in a Maintenance Engineering role working in a similar fast-paced, ERP driven environment. They must also possess the following skills and competencies:

  • The successful candidate will have a level 4/5 qualification or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or similar
  • Posses in depth knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical systems including diagnostic fault-finding
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems including fault finding & diagnostics
  • Must be able to attend to both mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks
  • Good knowledge & experience of automated production processes within a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostics skills
  • Experience within and knowledge of PUWER/LOLER regulations
  • Level 3 in Electrical Engineering - Test & Inspection is desirable
  • IOSH / NEBOSH certificate is desirable
  • Compression/Power Press experience or training would be advantageous
  • PLC interrogation knowledge would be desirable
  • LEAN Manufacturing experience is desirable
  • PDCA cycle experience is desirable
  • Route cause analysis / FMEA experience is desirable
