Introducing Jack Bell: Specialist Recruitment Consultant Joining HSQ's Civil Engineering and Rail Recruitment Team

We are pleased to introduce Jack Bell, who has recently joined the Civil Engineering and Rail Recruitment team at HSQ Recruitment as a Specialist Recruitment Consultant. Martin Spencer, our Business Manager, saw the immense potential in Jack's transferable skills from his previous sales experience, making him a valuable addition to the team. To get a glimpse of Jack's journey at HSQ, we sat down with him to discuss his first month with us.

Can you give us some background on your career and what led to you joining HSQ Recruitment?

For the past 4 years, I have been working in sales which for the most part was a good experience and great money, but it came to a point where each role I entered was just the same as the last role and soon got boring.

I started looking for opportunities where a lot of the skills and experience I gained over the years would be transferable, which lead me to think of a career in recruitment, soon after thinking about a change I came to speak with someone from HSQ and decided to make the jump from sales. 

Tell us about your role and responsibilities in the Civil Engineering team

My current roles and responsibilities as a recruiter involve speaking with candidates, formatting CV's and booking job interviews between candidates and clients. I will soon be taking on a new business aspect of my role which will involve finding new clients that have vacancies for our delivery team to fill.

How has your first month been at HSQ Recruitment?

So far my first month has been a learning curve with this being my first role in recruitment, my first week was coming to terms with the recruitment process from a sourcing and compliance aspect. After learning about the process, I then took to the phone and job boards and have managed to fill 3 vacancies so far.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Some of my interests include business and marketing, I have managed to start a few marketing consultancy projects recently which have seen some decent results for small businesses in my local area, I also attend regular meetings for a society which raises money for charities and benefits local communities, weekends for myself usually include going for a few pints and a game of pool.

What aspects of your role are you most excited about and what are you looking forward to?

The thing I am most excited about in my current role is the fact that there is potential for exponential growth within the business and my career, I look forward to seeing the team I work with grow and with that the potential to run my desk of delivery consultants.

What initially attracted you to a career in Recruitment?

One thing I enjoyed most about working in sales was networking, speaking with people and solving problems with the solutions we offer as a business, so moving all this over into recruitment would be an easy shift, as well as allow myself to continue doing what I feel passionate about. 

What would you say to anyone looking to start their career in recruitment and why?

As early in my recruitment career as I am, I can say recruitment is a good role for anyone to get into that likes speaking with people as well as helping people. Working in recruitment so far has given me a good insight into how you positively impact people’s lives as well as help businesses that are looking to grow or undertake new projects and help solve issues with their recruitment process.

Recruitment is a job that requires you to put yourself out there and be diligent due to the amount of people that you speak with and how much responsibility you have to make sure every box is ticked before signing a job off. It may not be for everyone but this part of the job for myself is the most enjoyable and rewarding.
