HSQ Recruitment Sustainability Program in partnership with Ecologi

HSQ Recruitment is proud to be supporting World Environment Day through our Sustainability program in partnership withEcologi. This year’s theme for World Environment Day is ‘Only One Earth’ which emphasises the degrading environmental conditions we are currently facing to encourage people around the globe in taking positive environmental action. Because of this, we must do all we can to protect the planet from the devastating, irreversible effects of Global Warming to create a better future for humanity.

As technology and our knowledge improve, we are now in a better position to truly see how fast we are approaching climate disasters. As individuals and society, we play a key role in raising awareness by urging the government, and the private sectors to make large-scale changes to protect our planet as currently, we are using the equivalent of 1.6 Earths to maintain our current way of life which our ecosystems cannot keep up with. If we do not act now to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 there is a 50 per cent chance that global warming will exceed 1.5°C in the next two decades.

Every year, we lose ecosystem services worth more than 10 per cent of our global economic output which affects the well-being of an estimated 3.2 billion people or 40% of the world’s population. Working towards restoring 15% of converted lands while stopping the further conversion of natural ecosystems can prevent 60% of expected species extinctions.

We recognise that the world’s natural resources are limited and fragile, due to this awareness we are committed to helping protect the environment which is reflected in our core value “Simultaneous promotion of all interests” and our business principles; in our sustainability framework, validated through a materiality analysis; and in our policies, programs, and practices for conducting operations in an environmentally as well as economically, responsible manner.

We understand that the Civil Engineering Industry is concerned with the impact of its infrastructure on our natural environment, becoming sustainable is a big goal as larger Civil Engineering companies are leading the initiative by using new technologies and techniques in their project. Through the use of new innovative methods, these companies can contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At HSQ we pledge to ensure that we assist and support our clients in becoming more environmentally positive.

At this year’s Backing Britain 3.0 initiative, from the Made in Group, we supported their goal to reach Net Zero by reducing the environmental impact by taking exhibition stands virtual to promote the digital transformation of manufacturing industries. Our Director Andrew Pilling pledged our commitment to a Net Zero future at this event, joining the many manufacturing and engineering organisations dedicated to challenging the status quo and setting the precedent for best practices across the industries

We understand that effective environmental management has a positive impact on corporate profitability in many ways.One of these ways is that programs are firstly designed to ensure the efficiency of natural resources that often minimise operating costs. Another way is that environmental quality programs can assist in being able to sustain and enhance our presence and reputation through domestic and international markets.

As part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Commitments we have created the HSQ Sustainability Program, which pledges that all members of HSQ Recruitment are acting in an environmentally responsible manner, championing local and nationwide green initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint by:

• Reducing our consumption of natural resources and taking climate action through carbon offsets

• Reusing in-house materials by redirecting recyclable waste products for reclamation management

• Purchasing recycles and environmentally friendly materials

• Establishing ourselves as environmentally responsible neighbours in the communities where we operate

• Motivate employees to assume personal accountability for protecting the environment

• Assisting and supporting our clients with their green initiatives.

HSQ is proud to be working in partnership with Ecologi to pledge our commitment to becoming Environmentally positive, Ecologi helps repopulate the UK’s wildlife in rivers, and the natural regeneration of woodlands within the UK. Having funded over 39 million trees and has reduced 1.7 million certified tonnes of CO2, the organization works by offsetting our carbon footprint and funding climate projects showing how they’ve contributed to protecting the planet.

Through our partnership with Ecologi, we have now supported the introduction of over 200 new trees in 2 months of climate impact, we have also offset 9 tonnes of carbon dioxide which is the equivalent of 7 long haul flights, 22,329 miles driven in a car and 27 meters squared of sea ice saved.

Over the next year, HSQ will continuously pledge to support environmentally positive initiatives suchas Ecologi and our net-zero pledge to ensure that we are being proactive in ensuring that we are consistently being environmentally friendly and reducing global warming for future generations.
